
This week’s Team Spotlight features our newest team member, Sam Mishkin, who has joined Boxwell as Vice President of Business Development. With more than 13 years of experience in the self-storage industry, Sam brings a strong background in business development, client relationships, and strategic growth.

His arrival also marks a professional reunion with Rod Bolls. They worked together prior to the founding of Boxwell in 2015.
Even in his first week, Sam’s insight and enthusiasm have already made a noticeable impact across the company.

Q&A With Sam
What experiences led you to where you are today?
I’ve always enjoyed working since I was kid, and my parents were supportive of this. I like to tell my kids that you need to be proactive. If you want something, you need to go and get it.
You’ve spent more than a decade in the storage industry. What first interested you in this space, and what keeps you going today?
In 2012, I was ready for a new challenge. I had worked across sales, customer service, purchasing, marketing, and operations, and I realized I was most energized by working with people and building relationships. The storage industry looked ready for strong growth, and that has proven to be true.
From your perspective, what sets Boxwell apart in today’s market?
Boxwell has a robust platform which is the result of exemplary leadership, a talented team, and a strong company culture. On top of that, our vertically integrated manufacturing provides a significant competitive advantage, and production diversification positions Boxwell for even more growth in the future.
How do you approach building relationships and partnerships in this industry?
The key to building long-lasting relationships is establishing trust. Customers seek knowledgeable partners that are reliable and trustworthy. This process requires patience and can take time but is the ultimate reward in business.
What advice would you give to someone entering the storage industry for the first time?
The demand for storage is driven by our culture and society. People have a hard time parting with their “stuff,” and I see that demand remaining strong in the future. With that in mind, my advice is to listen to what industry professionals have to say about their experiences in the self-storage sector.
You’ve already hit the ground running here at Boxwell. What has stood out to you most about the team or culture so far?
Clearly, company culture is a core value at Boxwell. The team is friendly, vibrant, and passionate about what we do. I am a strong believer that a positive culture within an organization facilitates success.
Outside of work, what are some of your favorite ways to spend time or recharge?
Outside of work, you can find me spending time with my family, playing hockey, mountain biking, and hiking.
What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
My first job out of college was for a private investigative firm in New York City.
