Today, we feature Strategic Account Manager Frank Pendleton. With over 20 years of experience in sales and operations within the transportation industry, Frank joined the Boxwell team in 2020. Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, he attended Florida State University. With six grown children, Frank now lives in Leland, NC, with his wife, Teri. Outside of work, Frank enjoys fishing, kayaking, camping, hiking, and traveling the world—he has visited six of the seven continents!

What experiences led you to where you are today?
My journey to Boxwell began with a shared vision and values with our founder, Rod. We first met years ago at the Inside Self-Storage World Expo in Las Vegas. We instantly connected. What drew me in was our mutual commitment to honesty, hard work, and always striving for improvement. Being a part of Boxwell’s vision has been a natural fit and an incredible journey.
What is something about yourself that most people do not know?
I am not fond of heights. A few years ago, I faced my fear by climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge in Australia. It was nerve-wracking but unforgettable. Wearing a jumpsuit and being tethered to a narrow path above the harbor gave me a newfound appreciation for the view—it was incredible to see the Sydney Opera House from that perspective. I felt like I was in the clouds.
If you are having a tough day, what helps you bounce back?
The beach is my escape. I love surf fishing and try to do it at least once a week. There is nothing like a sunrise on the shore to reset your mind and lift your spirits. Watching the waves and the changing sky gives me a sense of calm and helps me put things into perspective. Being there allows me to unwind and decompress. It is a reminder that whatever challenges I am facing are minor compared to the vast ocean.
If you had to completely change careers, what would you choose to do?
I love what I do, helping customers find the best products in an exciting industry. But if I had to choose a new career, I would pursue academia. I enjoy reading and teaching, and I imagine I would specialize in American history. Some of my favorite authors include David McCullough, Bruce Catton, and Ron Chernow. For lighter reading, I turn to Lee Child, David Baldacci, and Steve Berry. Visiting Powell’s Books in Portland—the world’s largest independent bookstore—was truly inspiring for a history buff like me!
Describe your dream vacation.
I would travel to a remote island in the Caribbean. All I would need are a tent, a fishing rod, and a few shirts and shorts. I could live simply, soaking in the tranquility for days.
When you were 10, what did you dream of becoming as an adult?
At 10, I dreamed of becoming an attorney. I pursued that path through high school and early college, even being admitted to law school. But I eventually realized it was not the career I wanted for the rest of my life.
What is your favorite movie?
My favorite classic movie is Gone with the Wind. As you may know, this remarkable book-turned-film captures the history of the Old South leading up to the Civil War. I also love John Wayne films, with Big Jake being my favorite.
What is the best sandwich you have ever had?
I am a sandwich enthusiast, having grown up eating them daily for lunch. My top pick is the “Dixie Chick” from Chicken Salad Chick. It is made from scratch in Southern style with onions to give it just the right kick!
