This week, we’re excited to introduce the newest member of the Boxwell team, Katey Baltensperger! Katey joins us as Vice President of Rental Operations, bringing more than 13 years of experience in the self-storage industry and a wealth of knowledge in container rentals, customer relationships, and business operations.
While Katey may be new to Boxwell, she’s no stranger to a few familiar faces! She previously worked alongside Boxwell Founder and CEO Rod Bolls and VP of Business Development Sam Mishkin at Universal Storage Containers. Now, she’s reuniting with her former colleagues to take on an exciting new challenge: building and leading Boxwell’s new Rental Department.
Outside of her professional experience, Katey brings an adventurous spirit, a passion for building relationships, and plenty of enthusiasm for what lies ahead. We sat down with Katey to learn more about her background, what brought her to Boxwell, and what she’s looking forward to in her new role.

Q&A with Katey
1. Can you tell us a little about your professional background and what led you to Boxwell?
I graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a degree in Marketing and later earned a post-baccalaureate degree in Elementary Education from Texas Tech University. After teaching elementary school for five years, my family moved back to Colorado in 2013. Shortly after, I connected with Rod Bolls, Boxwell’s CEO, who was working at Universal Storage Containers at the time.
I started as his Administrative Assistant and gradually took on new responsibilities, gaining experience in nearly every aspect of the business. Over the past six years, I’ve specialized in container rentals, developing and implementing a rental brokerage business model for what is now Stellar Storage Containers. That experience ultimately led me to this exciting opportunity at Boxwell!
2. What interested you most about joining Boxwell and taking on the role of leading our new Rental Department?
What initially drew me to Boxwell was the company culture and the passion the team has for what they do. It’s clear that people genuinely enjoy working here and feel valued for their contributions, which is something I really appreciate.
I’ve always loved a good challenge, so the opportunity to build a new rental division from the ground up, especially with such a supportive and talented team, was one I couldn’t pass up!
3. Can you tell us a little about your new role and what your day-to-day responsibilities will look like?
I’ll be developing and launching Boxwell’s new container rental division. My day-to-day responsibilities will include helping customers find the right storage solutions at competitive prices, building relationships with rental partners across the country, and creating the processes and systems needed to grow the business. My goal is to make renting a container as easy and seamless as possible for our customers while providing exceptional service.
4. What are you most excited about as you get started at Boxwell?
I’m most excited about the opportunity to build something new and watch it grow! It’s especially exciting to be part of a team that is genuinely invested in my success and enthusiastic about what we can accomplish together.
5. What do you think is most important when it comes to building strong relationships with customers?
For me, it comes down to honesty, compassion, and treating people the way I’d want to be treated. I believe in being transparent, following through on commitments, and genuinely caring about the customer’s experience. Building trust is everything, and I want every customer to feel confident that we’re looking out for their best interests.
6. What has stood out to you most about Boxwell and the team so far?
How welcoming everyone has been! I’ve worked remotely for a long time, so it’s been refreshing to come into the office, collaborate with coworkers in person, and feel like part of a team. There’s such a positive energy here, and it’s clear that people genuinely support one another.
7. Outside of work, what are some of your favorite hobbies or ways to spend your free time?
I love spending time in the mountains with my family, whether we’re skiing, hiking, or biking. I also enjoy traveling and exploring new places, crafting, Pilates, and trying just about anything new. I’m always up for an adventure!
8. What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
I’m a mom of three boys! Between their activities, sports, and adventures, there’s never a dull moment in our house!
