The Pinkbox facility is located on an existing paved parking area beneath the Styla Shopping Centre, along the busy D1 highway in Bratislava. With strong visibility and easy access for both residential and business customers, the location was ideal for introducing a new storage concept to the region.
At the time of planning, self-storage was still a new concept in Slovakia. Pinkbox worked to educate both customers and the local community about the convenience, security, and reliability of modern storage.
Utilizing 14,500 ft² (1,350 m²) of unused parking space, the company installed 50 Boxwell relocatable units—adding roughly 8,000 ft² (735 m²) of new rentable space. They offered a diverse mix of 10-, 7-, and 5-foot units, each providing convenient drive-up access
The goal: to build a scalable model that could be replicated across Slovakia and Central Europe as demand for self-storage grows.
“When choosing our site, we wanted strong visibility and accessibility,” says Adam Jakubac, one of Pinkbox’s owners. “Being next to a major shopping destination gave us exactly that.”
Cost Efficiency
By choosing relocatable units over traditional construction, Pinkbox significantly reduced costs and minimized risk. The modular approach allowed the team to start smaller, test the market, and expand strategically, all without the expense of permanent foundations or lengthy construction timelines.
“Relocatable units gave us faster deployment and lower financial risk. We can grow in phases, relocate units, or scale the business to new cities,” says Jakubac.
Speed to Market
From planning and permitting to installation, to first rental, the entire project took around 12 months. Once units arrived on site they were built and placed within one week. Boxwell’s relocatable units arrive as complete kits, allowing Pinkbox to assemble each one quickly and efficiently.
Boxwell’s installation team flew out to provide on-site training for the first build, helping Pinkbox establish a streamlined process for future expansions. This efficiency brought the facility to market faster, even amid the unique challenges of launching just before the COVID pandemic.
Technology and Automation
Pinkbox reimagined the storage experience through smart technology and automation. Customers can reserve a unit online, receive instant digital access, and move in the same day. Every detail of the rental process, from booking to billing, is contactless and fully automated.
Early in the process, some local officials and customers initially mistook relocatable storage for converted shipping containers. Pinkbox helped clarify that Boxwells are purpose-built and engineered specifically for commercial self-storage, designed for storage, not transport.

Design and Customization
Boxwell worked closely with Pinkbox to adapt each unit to Slovakia’s seasonal climate. The units feature ventilation, anti-condensation spray, and raised flooring to ensure clean, dry conditions year-round.
